Sandra Hamer was born in rural West Tennessee in the town of Grand Junction. She has been in Memphis since 1983 coming to the River City to attend college at then Memphis State University. Hamer is the author of the book “Glory…the Hair.” She is also a playwright of the play “Truancy” and is a middle school reading teacher with Memphis City Schools. She is also a poet and is currently working on a sequel to “Glory…the Hair.”
Hamer graduated from Middleton High School. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Memphis. She spent 13 years in the broadcasting working for WMC-TV as an overnight anchor/reporter, BET News as a freelance correspondent, 1340 WLOK-AM as a talk show host of “Insight for the 90’s”, WHBQ-TV as a writer/weekend assignments desk editor, and WUMR 91.7 FM as a jazz disc jockey. The author also has a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from the University of Memphis.
Sandra enjoys running, watching the Memphis Grizzlies, attending church services and singing in the choir. She is a member of Temple of Deliverance COGIC, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Memphis Education Association and the National Education Association and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. She gives God all the glory for every talent, for everything she is, has experienced and ever will be.
